The Township of Centre Wellington's Official Plan is a policy document that sets out the Township of Centre Wellington's views on how land should be used. It provides direction for future planning activities and for public and private initiatives aimed at improving and existing physical environment. The Township's Official Plan outlines, goals, objectives, and policies to guide future physical, social, and economic development, and change within the Township.
The Official Plan is a policy document rather than a regulatory document. The policies within the Plan are to be implemented by the use of the zoning by-laws, as well as the powers given to the Township by the Planning Act, the Municipal Act and any other Provincial statute or policy. The Official Plan is not used to restrict land use - this can only be done by a zoning by-law.
The Township of Centre Wellington's Official Plan only pertains to the Elora and Fergus Urban Centre, which includes Salem and Belwood. All other areas of the Township are governed by the County of Wellington's Official Plan.
