​Marriage Licence

In order to obtain a marriage licence, an application form must be completed and signed by both parties. It is not necessary for both parties to attend to submit the application provided they have the proper documents for both parties. A marriage licence is valid for use anywhere in Ontario for a period of 3 months from date of issue.

Required ID:

Two pieces of ID are required for both parties. Bring an original Birth Certificate plus valid photo ID such as a passport, driver's licence or Canadian Citizenship.

If divorced in Canada, your Original or Court Certified Copy of the Certificate of Divorce or Decree Absolute.  A Divorce Judgement is not acceptable proof of divorce.  If divorced outside of Canada, please contact the Legislative Services Department for further instructions.

Appointments are not always required but are strongly encouraged.

Civil Marriage Ceremonies

The Township of Centre Wellington offers three simple, Civil Marriage Ceremonies  performed by the Municipal Clerk or Deputy Clerk. Services are held at the Municipal Office located at 1 MacDonald Square, Elora in the Council Chamber on Thursdays and Fridays from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm, or at Victoria Park in Elora on Fridays from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm by appointment only. Additional locations may be arranged at the officiants discretion.  Certain dates and times are not available through out the year including statutory holidays. No alcohol, confetti, bubbles, rice, candles or incense allowed on Township property.

All ceremonies require a pre-wedding consultation prior to  the ceremony, usually arranged two weeks prior to the wedding date. Couples must come prepared with the following:

· A valid marriage licence (may be obtained at pre-wedding consultation)

· Current government issued photo ID

· Payment for Civil Ceremony (cash or debit only)

· Names & addresses of two witnesses

· Any materials to be incorporated into the ceremony.

Ceremony Fees

Council Chamber Ceremony $200.00 +HST

Victoria Park, Elora Ceremony $250.00 +HST

Alternative locations $350.00 +HST

Municipal employee witness $25.00 +HST per witness

All cancellations are subject to a $50.00 +HST administration fee.

Marriage Certificates

Marriage Certificates can be obtained from the Office of the Register General two months following the date of marriage.
