CENTRE WELLINGTON – On Tuesday, January 31st the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Government of Canada released publically the list of Ontario150 Community Capital Program grant list – and our very own Fergus Grand Theatre will receive accessibility enhancements and renovations due to this amazing grant.

"This grant is great news for our theatre and downtown Fergus" said Mayor Kelly Linton.  "It provides the opportunity to make the theatre completely accessible to patrons so that we can fully support the arts, culture and heritage scene while enriching the lives of our residents.  I am looking forward to experiencing even more arts and culture for years to come in this beautiful heritage building".

The Fergus Grand Theatre was slated for renovations in the 2017 budget, with the total estimated project cost at $460,000.  This grant will cover half of the estimated costs.  The grant will deliver improved infrastructure to renovate the theatre's entrance and lobby area, and make other accessibility upgrades.  The theatre is used by a variety of community organizations for celebrations, fundraisers, rentals and the arts.  This grant will allow the needed renovations to be made to accommodate all in our community.

Staff have slated late June to September for the construction period, which is typically considered a quiet time at the Theatre in between community shows and rentals.

2017 marks the 150th anniversary of Canada and the Province of Ontario. This milestone in Ontario's history provides a unique opportunity to strengthen our communities and celebrate the people, places and events that make Ontario a global leader in diversity, creativity, innovation, accessibility and inclusion.  OTF and the Government of Ontario are proud to support communities across the province in leveraging Canada's 150th anniversary to help achieve community priorities.
