CENTRE WELLINGTON – A large watermain break on Church Street from Wellesley St. to Irvine St. in Elora has caused the road to be closed for emergency repairs. The road should be reopened at approximately 4 p.m. Watermain breaks of this nature may result in discoloured water or lower than usual pressure.
The discolouration is caused from iron and manganese that are naturally occurring in the groundwater. When the mains are flushed or there is a change in pressure from events such as a fire or a watermain break; the minerals that have settled in the distribution system can be stirred up.
To eliminate the discoloured water, turn on a cold water tap nearest to your water meter and allow the water to flush slowly for several minutes until it runs clear. If after 24 hours, your water still appears discoloured, please contact Centre Wellington Infrastructure Services at (519) 846-9691.
