Media Advisory: Hydrant Flow Test

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Hydrant Flow Test

The Township’s Water Department will be conducting Fire Hydrant Flow Testing on Thursday September 30th.   Water discolouration may be experienced by customers while the test is conducted and for the remainder of the day. The area affected is Sideroad 19, Black Street and Farley Drive in Fergus.

Over time, naturally occurring minerals along with iron and manganese, which is found in our groundwater can build up as sediment in the pipes.  When fire hydrants are used, this sediment can be stirred up due to the high water velocity and high water volume used.

If discoloured water is experienced, residents are urged to turn on a cold water tap nearest to your water meter and allow the water to flush slowly for several minutes until it runs clear.  If after 12 hours, your water still appears discoloured, please contact Centre Wellington Infrastructure Services at (519) 846-9691, Option 2.
