Have a say – Budget 2021 is underway

Posted On Friday October 16, 2020

CENTRE WELLINGTON –Did you know that your tax dollars are split between the school boards, the County of Wellington and The Township of Centre Wellington, with the Township only retaining 30%?  We want you, the taxpayer to be informed, and understand how the Township’s budget works.  Through extensive budget deliberations, an online budget presentation and engagement survey, residents will have many opportunities to engage and give input on the 2021 Operating budget.

“We want to have the best-possible understanding of our community’s needs and expectations as we head into 2021 budget deliberations” stated Mayor Kelly Linton.  “2021 will be a difficult financial year to navigate as we continue to see how COVID-19 has affected our overall budget.  We want to ensure staff develop a budget that reflects our community’s priorities for key services and infrastructure, while maintaining a low tax rate increase for our residents.”

Opportunities for public engagement:

  • Budget Survey:  Through Connect CW, residents can share their expectations of public services and the actual expenditure on these services.  Residents will be asked to either increase, decrease or maintain the budget on services that impact their daily lives.  Your thoughts are important to us.  Surveys and comments received by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 22 will be shared with Council to shape the Township’s 2021 budget.
  • View our virtual Budget Presentation on Connect CW.  The presentation is an opportunity for us to show you where your tax dollars may be allocated, what projects are being considered in the 2021 budget, council direction to staff and funding challenges the Township is facing.

  • Ask a question on our open forum on Connect CW.

  • View Committee of the Whole budget meetings virtually. Pending Council approval, these meetings will take place on December 1, January 5 and January 7.  Budget delegations will be heard at the December 1 and January 7 meetings, allowing for comments from members of the public on the draft budget.

  • Review the capital and operating budget documents which will be posted on the Township website on Monday, December 21 and provide comments via email.
