Jack R. MacDonald pedestrian bridge officially opens this Friday
CENTRE WELLINGTON – Imagine the scene, strolling across the beautiful Jack R. MacDonald pedestrian bridge (formerly called the Victoria Street Bridge) while the river flows below, and you glimpse a picturesque view of downtown Elora. This will be the reality on Friday, November 22 when the Jack R. MacDonald pedestrian bridge officially opens.
“The Jack R. MacDonald Bridge provides an important pedestrian connection point between North and South Elora.” said Mayor Kelly Linton. “This bridge will improve access to downtown Elora, especially during the Badley (Metcalfe Street) Bridge replacement in 2020. This stunning bridge, supported by the original heritage stone piers, caps off the Township’s ambitious project to revitalize downtown Elora. This project was made possible by the generosity of the late Jack R. MacDonald, and earlier this year, Council approved renaming the bridge to recognize his contribution. Thanks also to the downtown Elora merchants who have been patient throughout the construction period.”
The restoration of the pedestrian bridge has been a critical request of the Elora Business Improvement Area (BIA) since it was removed in 2005. The new pedestrian bridge will increase connectivity across the Grand River offering pedestrians and cyclists a no-vehicle alternative to get across as an ideal active transportation option.
Join us for an official ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of the Jack R. MacDonald Pedestrian Bridge on:
Friday, November 22, 2019
10 a.m.
