Township extends facility closures and cancels programming up to July 3

Posted On Monday April 20, 2020

CENTRE WELLINGTON – To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Township has extended all facility closures, and cancelled all spring programming and rentals up to Friday, July 3, 2020.  Additionally, any third-party programs, events or other activities scheduled to take place in or on Township property will also be postponed or cancelled. The closure extension includes the CW Community Sportsplex, Belwood Hall, Elora Community Centre, the Victoria Park Seniors Centre, Elora Fergus Tourism office, and the Fergus Grand Theatre.

“This decision was not made easily” stated Mayor Kelly Linton.  “But extending our closure to July 3rd provides community and sports groups with the ability to plan accordingly.  We want to avoid our community groups having to spend countless hours planning for an event that may not happen.  We will continue to follow the advice of our health care professionals and upper levels of government during this pandemic, and if we can open our facilities earlier, we will.”

Recreational Programs
If you are registered for an aquatic or fitness program, you can choose to receive a refund or a credit to your account for future use.

Fitness and/or Aquatic Memberships
All memberships are extended automatically for the duration of the facility closure.  For members on a monthly payment plan, payments will continue to be withdrawn on the regular payment date.  Members wishing to stop payments, or members who paid for a full membership and would like a pro-rated refund, please contact staff to process the refund.

Sports fields and Facility rentals
If you have rented a sports field or reserved any other recreation facility before July 3, 2020, you can choose to receive a refund or a credit to your account for future use.

To reach our community services staff, please call 519-846-9691 ext. 903 or email parks@centrewellington.ca.

All outdoor recreational amenities including playgrounds, sports fields, basketball and tennis courts, off-leash dog parks, skateparks, picnic areas, park shelters, and other outdoor recreational amenities will remain closed until further notice. Green spaces in parks and trails will remain open, but individuals must maintain the safe physical distance of at least two metres apart from others.

This is a rapidly evolving situation; discussions and decisions are ongoing and we thank you for your patience during this time. The decision to extend closures and cancellations will be continually reviewed, in conjunction with direction from the Province and guidance from Wellington-Dufferin Guelph Public Health, to determine if an earlier opening is possible or if a further extension is required.

Any changes in operations will be communicated and posted to the Townships website at www.centrewellington.ca/emergencyplanning and on our social media platforms, www.facebook.com/CentreWellington and Twitter www.twitter.com/CentrWellington
