Annual Watermain Flushing

Posted On Tuesday October 12, 2021

Between October 18th and October 29th, the Township of Centre Wellington will conduct annual watermain flushing.

Over time, naturally occurring minerals found in our groundwater can build up as sediment in the pipes.  Watermain flushing is the process used to clean watermains of this sediment.  This is accomplished by flushing high velocity water through fire hydrants.  Watermain flushing improves water quality and only clean water is used in the process.

To reduce customer inconvenience, watermain flushing operations are conducted overnight, between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., Monday to Friday.

Water at your home may be discoloured after watermain cleaning. It is recommended that customers fully open their cold water faucets to flush this water out.  In most cases, the water should begin to run clear again within a few minutes. In cases where discoloured water or drop in pressure lasts for an extended period of time, please contact us at 519-846-9691 Ext 905.
