Culture

In Centre Wellington Culture Matters!

Centre Wellington is known for its culture. It is the heart of our community and what makes us truly stand out from the crowd. Over the past few years several initiatives have been put in place to support our Cultural community. The Cultural Action Plan, built on intense community engagement, guides how the Township continues to press forward on important Cultural enterprises in our community.

Information is at your fingertips on creative cultural industries and organizations in the Cultural Directory.

We can help enhance your event with resources and support from our Cultural Resource Centre and Community Development team.

And of course we love to celebrate our local culture with Doors Open and Culture Days.

Cultural Action Plan

Centre Wellington enthusiastically embarked on a Cultural Planning Process in 2012-2013 with the following outcomes.

  • Engage the community to the fullest extent
  • Create a detailed inventory of cultural treasures (our cultural map)
  • Develop a plan to guide Centre Wellington's economic and cultural growth

The result of 2 years of consultation and research engaged 1000+ community members and demonstrated that in Centre Wellington Culture Matters. The resulting Cultural Action Plan outlined 3 themes with 7 goals and 33 recommendations to develop the vision of culture in this amazing community.

Culture Days 2023: Make It BIG

The Township of Centre Wellington (Elora & Fergus Tourism) and the Elora Fergus Arts Council have joined forces to make this year's Culture Days, a celebration of arts and culture, one to remember. The chosen theme for Centre Wellington is "Make It BIG" - so, how would you like to make it big?

We are looking to create free or pay-what-you-may interactive arts and culture events and activities during Culture Days to encourage participation in the arts and cultural life of Centre Wellington. Anyone can submit a request to organize and run an event and participation in Making It BIG for Culture Days! We're calling on event organizers from the full spectrum of cultural creators - from grassroots community volunteers, independent artists, artisans and teachers, to major arts, culture and heritage institutions, libraries, specialty festivals, arts businesses and municipalities - there is always room for more organizers to Make it BIG!

Cultural Resource Centre

Want your event to be in ship shape?  We are here to help!

Our goal is to maximize year-round event support to organizations who wish to stage wildly successful community events in Centre Wellington and surrounding areas.  At the events resource centre we can assist events to be better organized and safe, resulting in the ultimate visitor experiences and favourable economic consequences for the community.

How does the Cultural Resource Centre Work (CRC)?

  • The CRC is a supportive setting/one stop shop for cultural organizations serving the community.
  • It offers event resources for rent
  • Community groups/event organizers become partners and share resources in exchange for storage, maintenance and insurance of those resources.
  • Partners "rent" their resources at no charge and receive a 25% discount off the rental price for other resources
  • Other events or groups (non-partners) can also rent resources at the full rental cost.
