The position of Councillor Ward 3 was declared vacant by Township Council at a Special Meeting held April 3, 2018. In accordance with the Municipal Act and the Municipal Elections Act, Council will fill the vacancy by appointment.
The term of the appointment is from the date the Oath of Office is taken to the end of the term of Council, November 30, 2018. The anticipated date of Council appointment and the Oath of Office is April 30, 2018.
To be considered for appointment, a nominee for municipal office must be a qualified elector as set out in the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended. Qualified electors must be:
a) A resident in or be the owner or tenant of land in the Township of Centre Wellington, or the spouse of such owner or tenant;
b) A Canadian Citizen;
c) 18 years of age or older;
d) Not prohibited from voting under any other Act or disqualified from holding municipal office.
Interested individuals are requested to complete and submit a Council Vacancy Application including the Declaration of Qualifications and the Personal Information Release. Candidates may also submit a personal statement of qualification with their application, in accordance with the Council Vacancy Policy. All documents must be submitted in person along with two pieces of identification to prove their identity and qualifying address to the Municipal Clerk or the Deputy Clerk, Legislative Services, Township of Centre Wellington Municipal Office, 1 MacDonald Square, Elora, ON. Candidates must sign the application before a Commissioner of Oaths and all submissions will become public records.
Applications will be accepted by Legislative Services until April 20, 2018 at 4:30 pm.
Certified Candidates will be invited to make a presentation at the Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Candidates may address Committee for a period of not more than five (5) minutes and may be asked questions by Members of Council.
