CENTRE WELLINGTON –Centre Wellington Fire would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to practice their home fire escape plan as part of Fire Prevention week, October 8-14, 2017.
This year's theme is "Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out". Smoke and fire spread fast. There's no time to figure out how to escape after a fire starts. That's why it is so important that everyone has working smoke alarms in their home and that they practice a home fire escape plan with everyone in their household before there's a fire.
"Fires are not planned and can happen at any time of the day" said Fire Chief Brad Patton. "What we can do is plan our escape route to ensure the whole family is on board in case of an emergency. By planning and practicing your escape route, you are putting safety precautions in place should there ever be a fire in your home".
To kick of Fire Prevention Week, Centre Wellington fire has announced an exciting contest for Centre Wellington school aged children. Children are urged to talk with their families and draw out their escape routes. Once your escape route drawing is complete, drop it off at either the Fergus Fire Station or Municipal Office in Elora for a chance to win a ride to school in a Fire Truck! The contest will be open until Friday, October 27 at 4 p.m.
