CENTRE WELLINGTON – In the fall of 2017, Township staff applied to the Mentorship program offered by Business for the Arts, and recently learned that we were chosen as one of eight successful communities in Ontario to participate. Business for the Arts mandate is to strengthen arts and culture in Canada by building partnerships between the private and cultural sectors. The program is designed to work with small to mid-sized not for profit art and cultural organizations providing free access to training, tools, and nation-wide mentorship.
On Monday, 25 community members from a variety of local arts, culture, heritage groups and organizations attended a Sponsorship and Governance Mentorship information session with Business for the Arts. Monday's information session was the first step in a 10-month long program involving individualized mentorship sessions with Canada's top sponsorship and board governance experts that will offer;
- peer to peer training workshops;
- marketing and branding tutorials;
- an e-learning sponsorship course; and
- access to a resource band of sponsorship and board governance tools and templates.
The Township of Centre Wellington is thrilled with their success in being awarded this program and the opportunity it has created for local arts, heritage and culture organizations. Community Development Coordinator Elizabeth Bender noted that "attendees who took part in the session were genuinely engaged and excited to be a part of this process. It will be rewarding to see the impact this training and mentorship will have over the next several months." The Mentorship program speaks directly to goals identified in the Cultural Action Plan.
