Centre Wellington – The Fergus Grand Theatre is pleased to announce as part of their presenting series, Soldiers of Song – A Tribute to the Dumbells will be performed on Friday, April 27 at 8 p.m. The show is a live performance involving theatre, music, and storytelling, based on the original works of the Dumbells, a Canadian concert party who entertained the troops on the front line in WWI.
If nationhood was won on the crest of Vimy Ridge, it was the Dumbells who provided the country with its earliest soundtrack. The soldier-entertainers' journey from Vimy to Vaudeville is now celebrated by award-winning author and two-time Juno Award-nominee Jason Wilson in the new musical-play Soldiers of Song. Wilson is assisted by Canadian storyteller Lorne Brown, Toronto stage actors Jim Armstrong and Andrew Knowlton, and Marcus Ali and Patrice Barbanchon.
Soldiers of Song is the third and final show in the Fergus Grand Theatre's Canada: Now and Then… presenting series. It follows on the tremendous success of The Great Canadian Songbook this past November, and Sugar and Gold: Stories of the Underground Railroad in February. As an added bonus, patrons who attend the show will be first to hear the details of the upcoming 2018-2019 planned presenting series!
Tickets are $35 each, and are available by phone at 519-787-1981, or online at www.fergusgrandtheatre.ca.
