Balance & Respect: The Haudenosaunee Way

CENTRE WELLINGTON – In partnership with Centre Wellington Minor Lacrosse, the Township of Centre Wellington invites you to a free community event as part of the Two Rows Together Appreciation Series on February 16 from noon to 1:00 PM at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

Join Kevin Sandy (CEO/Director, Cayuga Nation, Wolf Clan) for one hour of sharing and conversation about the Creator’s Game and Sport of Lacrosse through a Haudenosaunee lens. Kevin will share his insights, cultural knowledge and perspectives about the game, which is rooted in respect, balance, peace and connection to the people who now play this amazing sport. He will illustrate how everyone has a responsibility to uphold the values of the Creator’s Game in today’s contemporary society.

Overview:

Balance and Respect: The Haudenosaunee Way is a learning session designed to deepen understanding of Haudenosaunee worldviews, teachings, and approaches to balance, governance, and community well-being. Grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems, the session offers participants an opportunity to learn, reflect, and build awareness that supports respectful relationships and informed decision-making.

This session is part of the Township’s broader commitment to learning, reconciliation, and creating inclusive spaces and services. This event is a part of the Two Rows Together: An Appreciation Series that was designed in parallel with creating the Use of Indigenous-Themed Names, Logos and Images within or on Township Properties and Facilities Policy. The series is a part of the Pathway to Respectful Indigenous Representation that the Township is committed to. Stay tuned for more dates and events in this appreciation series.

This event takes place on Family Day (February 16). After the event, we invite you to join in a free sponsored skate, brought to you by the Township of Centre Wellington’s Council (1:00 PM at the CW Sportsplex and 3:00 PM at the Jefferson Elora Community Centre).
