Two Rows Together: An Appreciation Series

The Two Rows Together: An Appreciation Series was designed in parallel with the creation of the Township’s Use of Indigenous-Themed Names, Logos and Images within or on Township Properties and Facilities Policy. The education series is part of the Pathway to Respectful Indigenous Representation that the Township of Centre Wellington is committed to.

The series creates opportunities for residents, staff, community partners, and local organizations to learn more about Indigenous representation, cultural appreciation, reconciliation, and the responsibilities connected to public symbols, names, logos, and images.

We learned the difference between appropriation and appreciation, reflected on our shared history, and explored how we can walk respectfully with the land, water, and sky. We discovered simple actions, community initiatives, and mindset shifts that help preserve and honour the natural world.

This session offered participants a meaningful opportunity to explore Haudenosaunee worldviews, teachings, and approaches to balance, governance, and community well-being.

Through guided teaching, storytelling, and thoughtful reflection, attendees deepened their understanding of Indigenous knowledge systems and strengthened their ability to engage respectfully with Indigenous histories and communities. The session welcomed municipal staff, elected officials, advisory committee members, volunteers, community partners, residents, and sports organizations—truly all ages and backgrounds.
