Bridge and Infrastructure Construction Update as of May 23:

  • The surface asphalt paving and final line painting of the bridge and adjacent roadway and intersections has been scheduled to be done overnight tonight starting from 7pm Thursday May 23 and finishing by 7am on Friday May 24.  All lanes will be closed to vehicle traffic overnight.  The full closure will extend from Bridge St. by the intersection of Queen St. West, through the intersection of St. David St. and Bridge St. / Queen St. and across the St. David St. bridge and will include the closure of the intersection of St. David St. and St. Andrew St. as well as a portion of St. Andrew St. east over to the Royal Bank.  The paving work will begin on the north side and progress over to the south side.  Traffic barriers and detour signs will be in place for the overnight road closure.
  • During the overnight paving, vehicle access will be blocked to the driveway and parking area along East Menzies Lane adjacent to the Brewhouse.  A notice has been delivered to the affected residents and businesses.  Vehicles are requested to park elsewhere overnight tonight.
  • The installation of the under-bridge decorative lighting and the parapet wall accent lighting has been completed.
  • Bell has begun their work at the intersection of St. Andrew St. / St. David St. and at the intersection of Bridge St. / St. David St. to pull their wiring beneath the bridge for the conversion of their overhead lines to underground.  Once the underground wiring is installed they will also need to remove their utility pole and guywires.  We anticipate that there may be some traffic disruptions or temporary periodic traffic interruptions for the Bell work,  but that Northbound and Southbound traffic will generally be maintained across the bridge and through the adjacent intersections during the Bell work.
