Accessibility and Inclusion

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) was passed by the Ontario Legislature with the goal of creating standards to improve accessibility across the province.

The AODA allows the government to develop specific standards of accessibility that are designed to help make Ontario more accessible.

One of the specific standards that has been developed, and made law, is the Accessible Customer Service Standard.  This standard details specific requirements for all service providers.

The Township of Centre Wellington is committed to accessibility in our community. Council has adopted a multi-year accessibility plan that outlines a strategy to remove and prevent accessibility barriers.

To aid in achieving our accessibility goals, the Township is part of the wellington accessibility partnership, a collaboration with the County of Wellington, the City of Guelph, the Homewood Health Centre and the Upper Grand District School Board. Together, we have adopted the Wellington County Facility Accessibility Design Manual (FADM).

The FADM outlines the Township's commitment for accessibility within township-owned facilities. The township uses the FADM for new construction as well as renovation projects. The purpose of the manual is to provide a higher level of accessibility than is currently offered in the Ontario Building Code.

Suppose you need an accessible format of a document. In that case, you can contact the Township Department responsible for the document, or contact the Municipal Clerk directly by calling 519-846-9691 ext. 243 or 242. We will work with you to provide a document in a format that best suits your needs, such as Braille, audio, or an electronic version.
