Township buildings and public structures may be illuminated in recognition of important causes, cultural celebrations, awareness initiatives and other meaningful community occasions.

Light can help bring attention to meaningful stories and occasions.
Through the Inclusive Community Program, eligible community groups and organizations can request the illumination of select Township buildings and public structures. Each request helps create greater visibility, awareness and connection across Centre Wellington.
How it works
A simple process from request to recognition
Submit the details of your request and Township staff will review its eligibility, scheduling and operational requirements.

Illumination colour guide
Choosing colours for your recognition
Colours can hold different meanings across cultures, organizations and awareness initiatives. The examples below show some common associations and may help you choose a colour or combination for your request.
Red
Often requested for heart-health initiatives, blood-donation awareness, World AIDS Day and occasions recognizing courage or remembrance.
Orange
Recognized across Canada through Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It may also represent safety and inclusion.
Yellow
Commonly associated with hope, optimism and visibility, including childhood cancer awareness and initiatives supporting military families.
Green
Frequently used for mental-health awareness, environmental initiatives, organ-donation awareness and cultural occasions such as St. Patrick’s Day.
Teal
Often connected with ovarian cancer awareness, sexual-violence prevention, healing, survivor support and community-care initiatives.
Blue
Used for occasions such as World Diabetes Day, child-abuse prevention, peace initiatives and campaigns promoting understanding and accessibility.
Indigo
A deeper blue that may be used for reflection, dignity, human-rights initiatives or recognitions requiring a calm and contemplative tone.
Purple
Commonly associated with epilepsy awareness, Alzheimer’s awareness, gender-based violence prevention, dignity and International Women’s Day.
Red and white
A distinctly Canadian combination that may be requested for Canada Day and other occasions celebrating Canadian identity and community.
Purple, white and green
The colours associated with International Women’s Day, representing dignity and justice, equality and hope.
Red, black and green
Colours connected with Pan-African identity and liberation that may be requested during Black History Month or other celebrations of Black history and culture.
Rainbow
Widely used for Pride celebrations and recognitions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, diversity, identity, inclusion and belonging.

These examples are provided as a general guide. Colours may have additional
meanings and are not reserved for the occasions listed. Applicants may
request another colour or combination that is significant to their
recognition. Final lighting selections depend on the capabilities of the
requested location, scheduling and available Township equipment.

Scheduling and availability
A few things to know before applying
Illumination availability depends on location, equipment, seasonal conditions and other approved recognitions.
- Submission of a request does not guarantee approval or a specific date.
- Where requests overlap, staff may adjust dates or the length of an illumination.
- Not every colour or combination is available at every illumination location.
- Requests must meet the general requirements of the Inclusive Community Program.
