Centre Wellington Launches Transit Feasibility Study to Plan for the Future

The Township has officially launched a Transit Feasibility Study (TFS) to explore how public transit could serve the community now and into the future — with a focus on long-term needs through to 2051.

The study will assess whether transit is feasible in Centre Wellington and, if so, what service model would best serve the Township’s growing population and employment base. It will also explore how local transit could connect with surrounding municipalities and key regional hubs.

“We know our community is growing, and with that growth comes the need for more transportation options,” said Mayor Shawn Watters. “This study is a proactive step to explore what transit could look like in Centre Wellington, and how we can make smart, sustainable choices that support residents, workers, and visitors alike.”

Through a competitive process, the Township has retained Dillon Consulting Limited to complete the study. Their work will build on existing successes such as Wellington County’s RideWell on-demand transit service and the Elora-Fergus Shuttle Bus.

Key Objectives of the Study:

  • Review current transit options, policy context, demographics, and regional connections
  • Engage the public through a creative and inclusive community consultation process
  • Forecast future ridership and identify transit service opportunities
  • Evaluate service alternatives and identify a recommended transit solution

The Transit Feasibility Study is all about finding a transit solution that works for Centre Wellington — one that’s affordable, efficient, and tailored to the unique needs of our growing community.

And to get it right, we need your voice.

A community survey is now live on Connect CW, giving residents a chance to share their thoughts and help shape the future of transit in Centre Wellington. Your feedback will play a key role in guiding the study’s recommendations and ensuring the final plan reflects what matters most to you.
