Community Partners Come Together for Elora Green Space Improvements

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Over the past several months, work has been ongoing in the Elora Green Space, ranging from improvements to the space, art installations, new chairs, and an overall enhancement of the cultural and aesthetic value of the space.

“Having community partners come together to enhance the Elora Green Space is a reminder of what we can achieve when we work together with a shared vision. The collaborative effort not only enriches the natural beauty of the area but also deepens its cultural significance for generations to come,”  says Mayor Watters. This work, broken up into several phases and continuing on today, could not have been possible without the many community partners coming together in the following ways:

  • In November 2023, the Township was contacted and advised that the Stephanie Minarovich Green Space Fund would like to cover the costs associated with restoring the sculpture in the Green Space, A Question of Who’s in Charge by Scott A. McNichol.
    • The Artist was available to complete the restoration work in November 2024, and Kat Florence generously offered a secure location where the Artist could perform the restoration.
    • The sculpture was removed on October 28, 2024, and Scott McNichol completed the restoration work throughout the winter. The “Tall Man” was reinstalled on June 30, 2025.
    • Additions to the “Tall Man” sculpture were made, such as stilts to raise the sculpture higher, to keep the assets of the sculpture protected.
    • The sculpture still has some on-site repairs needed, and the Township is working with the Artist to get these repairs completed in August 2025. Additional plantings will be added around the base, and a plaque will then be installed commemorating the artist, the sculpture, and the Stephanie Minarovich Green Space Fund.

  • Kat Florence Canada, generously donated a total of $38,021.60 to the Green Space for a number of improvements. A plaque will be installed in the Green Space in recognition of the donation for the following improvements:
    • Installation of stone steps;
    • Installation of Yew hedge;
    • Installation of flagstone for improved seating area and garbage can placement; and,
    • Sod and turf repairs.

  • New Muskoka chairs were donated by the Elora Home Hardware to the Elora Green Space. The previous chairs, also donated by Elora Home Hardware, were well-loved by locals and tourists and in need of an upgrade. A plaque has been installed on the new chairs commemorating the donation.

  • The Stephanie Minarovich Green Space Fund proposed a replacement for the water feature – a small pond which had not performed as intended and required removal – “Mo, the Moose Fawn” by artist Frank Ripley of Orillia.
    • The Sculpture, which stands 5 feet tall and is made from repurposed metal and found objects, will be installed in the Green Space, enhancing the area's cultural and aesthetic value.
    • The Elora Sculpture Project has confirmed that one of its existing sculpture bases within the Green Space can be repurposed as a permanent location for “Mo, the Moose Fawn”.
    • In addition, a plaque will be installed recognizing the sculpture in memory of Stephanie Minarovich.

Township Council extends a huge thank you to our community partners, Kat Florence Canada, the Stephanie Minarovich Green Space Fund, and Elora Home Hardware on their collective work going into the Green Space. Work in the Green Space is ongoing, and we are looking forward to having the space completed for all to enjoy.
