Township Thanks OLG for Continued Investment in Centre Wellington

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Over $2.7 million received in 2024-2025 to support local projects and community initiatives.

At last night’s Key Township Open House, with over 100 residents in attendance, the Township of Centre Wellington recognized the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for its ongoing financial contributions to the community through the Municipality Contribution Agreement.

For the 2024–2025 fiscal year, Centre Wellington received $2,771,779 in revenue from OLG. Since the opening of the local gaming site in December 2003, the Township has received a cumulative total of $45,608,175 million.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support from OLG,” said Mayor Shawn Watters.  “These funds allow us to invest in meaningful projects that improve infrastructure, support local organizations, and contribute to the vibrancy and quality of life in our community.”

Investing in the Community

OLG funds are reinvested directly back into Centre Wellington to support infrastructure upgrades, community programs, arts and culture, and recreational enhancements. 2024 projects made possible through OLG contributions were highlighted during the open house, including:

  • Eighth Line W – SR 11 to WR 17
  • St. David St. N – St. Andrew St. to Edinburgh Ave
  • East Mill St. Metcalfe St. to Melville St.
  • Health Care Professionals Recruitment

In addition, $105,400 from OLG revenue, along with $32,980 from the Township tax base, supported the 2024 Community Impact Grant Program, totalling $138,380 in funding awarded to 31 local organizations. These grants help strengthen community services, build organizational capacity, and ensure a broad range of programs are available to residents.

“OLG is proud to be a vital part of the Township of Centre Wellington,” said Kathleen Devine, OLG’s Senior Municipal Relations Manager. “For the last 50 years, since the organization’s start in 1975, 100 per cent of OLG profits are reinvested in Ontario to support provincial priorities. From critical infrastructure to important local programs, to community festivals OLG’s profits are hard at work in the Township of Centre Wellington and across our province to build stronger communities. We also appreciate the contribution of gaming employees at Elements Casino Grand River who are making life in your community that much better. When you play at an Ontario casino, you play for Ontario.”
