10 Minute Playwriting Contest at the Fergus Grand Theatre

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Fergus Grand Theatre is thrilled to announce its inaugural 10 Minute Play Contest, to be presented in conjunction with the World Theatre Day 2025 festivities at the theatre. This exciting opportunity is aimed at showcasing the creative talent of playwrights and performers within the community and beyond – bringing together local artists, theatre enthusiasts, and the wider community to celebrate the power of theatre in a dynamic and innovative way.

Call for Submissions: Aspiring playwrights are invited to submit their 10 minute plays, with the contest theme “Change Management” – whatever that means to the playwright. The competition is open to all Canadian residents, and all genres in spoken drama are allowed, except musicals. Only one play per playwright is permitted, there is no fee to submit, and play submissions must be suitable for an all-ages audience. They must also be available for a staged reading, not be previously published or produced, and contain no copyrighted material not released for use.

Contest Details:

  • Submission Deadline: December 23, 2024
  • Play Length: 10 Minutes (about 10 pages)
  • Format: Standard Play Format in English
  • Staging: Maximum of four actors, minimal technical requirements

How to Enter: Plays must be submitted in PDF format via email to egoudie@centrewellington.ca with the subject line “10 Minute Play Submission”. Winning plays will be selected in January 2025 and will receive a staged reading as part of the Fergus Grand Theatre’s World Theatre Day season launch on March 27, 2025. Winning playwrights are invited, but not required to attend. For more information please reach out to Theatre Coordinator, Eric Goudie.

About World Theatre Day: World Theatre Day is an annual celebration of the art form, honouring the global theatre community and its impact on society. Established by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) in 1961, the day encourages people worldwide to reflect on the importance of theatre as a powerful medium for social change, education, and artistic expression.

Happy writing, and good luck!” Says Theatre Coordinator Eric Goudie.
