Township acquires strategic downtown Fergus property

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Township has acquired the property at 140 St. Patrick Street West, Fergus, a 0.24-acre site located directly beside the Provost Lane/St. Patrick Street parking lot in downtown Fergus.

The property includes an existing structure and is currently zoned C1.  The acquisition gives the Township a significant opportunity to secure a strategically located site in the downtown core, with a range of potential future uses under consideration, including parking.

The total value of the transaction is $1,407,515.  The Township’s contribution toward the acquisition was $667,515.  The remaining $740,000 is being provided as a donation. 

In recognition of this generous contribution, the Township will provide naming rights in the name of the McCabe family.

The Township will continue discussions with the existing tenants regarding potential lease extensions.  The Township will consider any longer-term plans for the property through future Township budget processes and in consultation with Council.
