Township Celebrates World Town Planning Day with the Launch of a New Self-Guided Tour

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Ahead of World Town Planning Day on November 8, the Township is excited to announce the official launch of a brand new, self-guided walking tour of Elora, titled “If Elora Could Talk: World Town Planning Day Walking Tour.”

Designed to bring local history, development, and civic evolution to life, the interactive tour invites residents and visitors alike to explore the decisions, ideas, and changes that have shaped Elora from its earliest survey in 1832 to the vibrant community it is today. “One of the things I love about this project is that it starts with places people already know and care about,” said Emma South, Senior Policy & Housing Planner. “Our streets, buildings, and public spaces are part of our everyday lives, and each has a story about how our community has developed and changed over time. Through this tour, we wanted to share some of those stories, help people discover something new about Elora, and encourage a greater understanding of how planning influences the places we share in celebration of World Town Planning Day.”

Residents, educators, and visitors can access the self-guided tour directly through the free Echoes app on mobile devices. The app, which gives an interactive mobile experience allowing users to explore Elora at their own pace, leverages location-based audio and storytelling; participants can walk through history, hearing diverse perspectives on how streets, buildings, public spaces, and mixed-use developments intersect in daily life.
