Noise

The Township recognizes that noise impacts our quality of life and that is why the Township regulates noises which disturb or are likely to disturb inhabitants. The first step in the noise reporting process is to submit a complaint. An Officer will review the complaint and you may be required to complete and submit a Noise Log.  Noise Logs are recorded for a period of at least two weeks. Once the completed log has been received, By-law staff will complete a review and notify you as to whether or not a Notice of Violation will be issued. The decision to issue a Notice of Violation is based on a review of the evidence and whether there is a reasonable prospect of conviction. Please provide copies of any documents you submit and retain the originals as you may be required to produce them as evidence in court.

The Wellington County OPP respond to after-hours noise complaints. Please contact the OPP by calling 1-888-310-1122.

Certain activities within the Township may require an exemption to the Township's Noise By-law. Large events, festivals, and other activities likely to cause noise may be eligible.

In order to obtain an exemption, you must apply for a Noise By-law Exemption and pay any applicable fee. Please ensure your application and fee are submitted to the Township at least 30 days prior to the date of your event.

You can make an application on-line or in person at the Municipal Office, located at:

1 MacDonald Square, Elora, ON N0B 1S0

If your application is made on-line, please contact the Township to process payment by calling 519-846-9691 x 901.
